Devin's Fishing Trip

Devin was privileged enough to go on an amazing fishing trip this week.
Basically, an really big company, (Linden Transports) that MegaWatt (Devin's Company he works for) is a client of, offered the president of Megawatt a free fly fishing trip at a remote river (Alagnek), with a fishing guide, with all expenses paid.
Well, since we were in Chicago when Megawatt took all of their employees on a halibut fishing charter in Homer, they decided to offer this trip to Devin.
And let me just tell you, he was pretty thrilled.
He caught a 25lb. King salmon.
OBVIOUSLY, he loved every minute of it.
The biggest salmon caught on the river was 45lb. Pretty insane!

Devin said it was a really nice barge!

They saw a huge brown bear across the river.
You have to click on the picture to see it!

Devin got to fly out with the president of Linder Transports.

and sat in the cockpit!

Pulling into the Anchorage airport.

South Forks

Sarah, Emily (a friend of Sarah's) and I went hiking last week and decided to try a new trail.
We went to South Forks, which is at the very end of the Hiland road, and we LOVED it there!
Anna and Josh also introduced up to Mount Harp, which is a trail the other side of the river!
And I'd have to say Mount Harp is one of my new favorites!
Hiking here in Alaska is hiking at its best.
I fall in love with the state more and more each time I go.
Especially when I get to witness a momma moose and her baby running down the road.
And a big papa moose with a huge rack in full velvet grazing in the mountains.

Can I just say, thank you God for bringing me here!
And for providing such great friends.

HE. IS. GOOD.

Dip netting in the Kenai

This past weekend was an adventurous one!
Devin and I and a few friends went dipnetting.
We discovered the meaning of combat fishing!
There were TONS of people there.
We had so much fun, in all, our group caught about 40 red salmon!
It was soooo cold! Be we stayed warm with many layers and blankets! (well at least I did!)
I don't know how those guys did it in the water! The waves caused the water to go into their waders!
This weekend I felt most proud of being an Alaskan!
We're going again this weekend to hopefully get our limit (about 25 more for us!)
And I will get in this time, and get my own salmon!
I didn't have any waders last time, but this weekend I will!
I can't wait!

We arrived to at our camping spot at about 1 in the morning.
Devin, couldn't go straight to bed... too much excitement.
He decided to cast his fly rod.
and for the first time (with a fly rod) he caught a salmon!
he ran over, and woke us up to show us his catch!
I was so excited for him.
I mean... just look at his face!

Devin, completely in his element.

Amanda caught her first alaskan salmon!

And its tradition to kiss your first catch!

Just look at all those people on the other side! Our side was even more packed!
I'm telling you, this is combat fishing.

I love this girl.

I guess I wasn't feeding Avery her cheerios fast enough!

Hailey trying to stay warm!

Our sweet set up! (Thanks to my babe!)

Haha! This was priceless.
Ryan helping Josh get the water out of his waders.

Josh rocked it!

Josh and Anna!!! Love you guys!

Can you tell we were having fun?
Wish Jen (Ryan's wife) and Matt (Sarah's husband) could've been there!

(Devin loves Hailey too)

Ryan, Josh, and myself trying to warm up our hands on the breakfast potatoes! Haha!

Go Sarah!

Devin had me carry a salmon back to the trailer.
My first time holding a fish.
I was a little freaked out...
But I think I'm ok with it now.
Now if I could just get over the whole "clubbing" the fish and filleting it thing...

Cadence clubbing the fish! She's braver than I am!
